5 Signs your Dog Needs Obedience Training

We all love our dogs – the only problem is that they can really put a downer on a day out or an experience with friends when they’re rowdy and unpredictable. It’s easy to make the mistake of thinking that your hyper-active dogs are perfectly manageable – until they start leaving a path of destruction in their wake everywhere you go showing signs they need obedience training.

Sometimes, extremely disobedient dogs can be dangerous, aggressive, and frustrating to handle – particularly when you’ve got neighbors complaining about their constant barking. Here, we’ll take a look at some of the signs that you might need some help dealing with your disobedient dog.

1.    Aggression

The first and most important sign that your dog could benefit from some obedience training is the presence of obvious aggression. It may surprise you to learn that many pet owners don’t take the presence of aggression seriously, but if your dog is showing anger to you, another person, or even another pet, then you need to address the problem quickly.

2.    Barking

Pretty much every dog barks, so a little bit of yapping shouldn’t be enough to have you searching online for the nearest doggie boot camps. However, if your dog barks non-stop, and also lunges at people, this could be a sign of behavioral problems.

3.    Jumping

Again, we expect our dogs to start jumping up with excitement when they meet a new person or greet us as we return home from work. However, if your dog is constantly jumping up at people without any caution as to where they place their paws or claws, then you might need to consider some obedience training.

4.    Leash Pulling

All dogs get excited from time to time, but if you have a big dog that’s constantly pulling your arm out of its socket as he or she drags you around the local park, then you might want to classify that as bad behavior. Training and obedience classes can teach your pooch how to walk with you – rather than simply taking you for a run around the block.

5.    Ignoring

Finally, if you’ve ever wondered how many dogs actually come to their owner when they’re called, there’s a simple answer: every dog that has had some kind of obedience training. Most dogs won’t come when they hear their name unless they have been trained to do so – it’s a lot like teaching your pooch to play dead or give you their paw in a friendly handshake.
