5 Signs Your Dog Has Ticks

As you may well have heard, ticks can be seriously dangerous for dogs. Often enough, these horrid parasites can cause worse problems for your animal. From fevers to infections, there’s a whole load of issues that you want to watch out for. So, what should you do? Well, one of the easiest things you can do is spot the ticks early on so that you can remove them. Here are five little signs you need to watch out for.

1. Your dog seems itchy

Of course, one of the most obvious signs is when you see your dog scratching a lot. Often enough, ticks will make your dog extra itchy, which is a real issue. Most people assume that dogs only scratch when they have fleas. That is not the case by any means. Sometimes, you need to look into other potential problems when you spot this worrying and troublesome sign.

2. You find a tick in their bed

If you find a tick in your dog’s bed, the chances are that your dog has one or more. The best thing you can do in this situation, is check your dog over in a thorough way. The sooner you check your dog out, the better things will be. Ticks are not always easy to spot. When you see one, though, you need to act fast.

3. They shake a lot

When dogs have ticks, it irritates them in a serious way and they will do anything to make it stop! Most of the time, you will see that your dog starts to shake their head to get rid of it. (Of course, this doesn’t work at all!) If you see a dog shaking all the time, it’s a really bad sign.

4. They have a fever

After a while, a tick can cause a dog to have a fever. Yikes. That’s the very last thing that you want. When your pup develops a fever, you need to take them to the vets as soon as possible. That way, they can get the treatment they need and they will be okay! You will likely notice that your dog is hot and quiet when this happens.

5. You notice scabs

Since ticks tend to bite quite a lot, they can sometimes cause sores and scabs. That means that your dog may have a whole load of scabs all over them. It’s not a nice sight. The best thing you can do here is treat them before the problem gets much worse. After all, you don’t want your poor pup to be in pain!
