King, a Golden Retriever loyally stayed by his owner’s side for weeks after he died. The dogs are well known for being so faithful, and he demonstrated that to a high degree when he was found tired and hungry, keeping watch over a missing hiker. Unfortunately, the owner of the dog, Oscar Alejandro Hernandez died at the young age of just 29.
Unfortunately, unlike Ruby in the Netflix show, Rescued By Ruby, this story didn’t have a happy ending. If you have not watched it, the story was based on a true-life event. Rhode Island state trooper and dog owner, Daniel O’Neil helped the dog who was slotted for euthanasia. Eventually, he managed to gain the trust of the excitable animal and Ruby defied all odds when she passed the K-9 entry exam with flying colors.
King obviously had a caring and loyal owner in Oscar Alejandro Hernandez. The dog stayed by his side and if he hadn’t been found, one wonders if he would have stayed there until he passed away as well. Apparently, King was very hungry and really exhausted after his long vigil. A video emerged of him on Twitter, and many people commented on the sad but good news that the doggie was safely rescued after his ordeal.
People Magazine reported that the dog steadfastly remained by his owner’s side. Actually, it is thought that he stayed next to his owner for two weeks, ever since he was reported missing. Apparently, Oscar’s family reported him missing in the wilderness near LA. The area is hilly and many people assisted in the search for the missing man.
King was rescued, but he couldn’t go with his owner whose body was discovered a good distance away from where he was last seen. No news came as to the cause of death. Fortunately, the family was helping the searchers, so it sounds like the dog probably went into the care of someone that he knows.
King the Golden Retriever seems to fit with the description of the breed by Golden Meadows. The website explains that the dogs “form an instant bond with their owner.” Additionally, “It doesn’t matter if the dog lives with you in the home or simply forges a connection with you at work — spending time with a Golden Retriever ensures it [develops] a fierce loyalty.”
Over on Twitter, pet-lovers fear that the dog might grieve for its owner. After all, they seem to genuinely love their humans. Hopefully, he finds a lot of love from the people in the family to transfer that loyalty to.
