When Jeremy and Sarah Henson took much-deserved break in Las Vegas, their loving dog, Dexter was placed in a pet hotel. However, the Kansas couple received an alert from their doorbell hotel security system, revealing Dexter, begging to be let into the house.
Back in February, Jeremy and Sarah Henson dropped their dog Dexter at a pet hotel in Lenexa, Kansas. The couple was heading out to go hiking in Mount Zion National Park. After a couple of days, Jeremy and Sarah traveled to Las Vegas, where they planned to have a night out on the town.
However, their Ring doorbell sent them an urgent alert. Via the home security system, Jeremy and Sarah could clearly see Dexter, crying and scratching at their front door.
Jeremy told Inside Edition that they kept thinking it had to be another dog, but no, it clearly was their beloved dog, Dexter. According to Henson, the dog would have had to scale a six-foot fence at the pet hotel, along with a four-foot retainer fence before walking the two miles to their home.
Jeremy immediately called his sister and brother-in-law, who live a mile away from their home. Meanwhile, Sarah called the pet hotel to tell them what had happened. Henson then activated his Ring doorbell, so he could speak to Dexter and calm him down. According to him, the dog didn’t look freaked out and just got excited, his tail clearly wagging.
In the meanwhile, the couple was concerned, as a blizzard was coming in. They didn’t want Dexter to run away before someone could come and collect him. While Jeremy continued talking to Dexter to keep him calm, a vehicle from the pet hotel pulls up ten minutes later. According to the Hensons, the dog then happily jumped into the van.
Reportedly, when Jeremy and Sarah arrived later to collect Dexter, he poked his head around the corner, then ran and tackled his dad. Speaking of the dog’s great escape, Jeremy said they believe Dexter knew the way home after spending many hours walking the neighborhood and passing by the pet hotel.
“We always knew he was smart, it actually made sense he made it there,” Jeremy said. “He gets himself into trouble with how smart he is.”
“He was bound and determined. Obviously, he didn’t understand the fact that we were gone, he just thought that we were home. And he takes his job protecting us very seriously,” Jeremy added.
Thank goodness for the Henson’s Ring home security system, which definitely saved the day.
