Paralyzed Highland Park Victim Cooper Roberts Wants To See His Dog

Cooper Roberts is a cute kid who went out on the Fourth of July full of happiness and ended up a victim of mass shooter Robert Crimo at Highland Park in Chicago. Aged just eight, he was grievously injured and reportedly probably won’t ever walk again. At the age of eight, his entire life just changed forever. Now that he’s conscious, he wants to see his brother Luke and his doggie.

Cooper Roberts Wants To See His Dog

It’s no wonder that the little kid hankers for his doggie. Actually, there are very good reasons why people turn to service dogs. Being around dogs after trauma can help people to cope emotionally. Soothing and loyal, they allow folks to communicate with them. So, it’s probably not a bad idea if his mom, Dr. Keely Roberts can make that happen as soon as possible. If you don’t know she was injured in the shooting and so was her son, Luke.

Cooper Roberts, like any kid exposed to dogs, probably enjoyed playing with his dog. Dogs help to keep kids active and provide constant and loving company. Apparently, the animals also help kids with psychological development. Right now, it seems that the youngster needs a lot of psychological adjustment in the days to come.  According to a report by CBS News, Chicago, “family spokesperson Anthony Loizzi said the ‘family has confirmed that he will be paralyzed from the waist down.”

Cooper Roberts Also Misses His Brother Luke

The outlet noted that the young boy suffers from a lot of “pain,” but fortunately, he woke up, and “the ventilator” was removed. Until now, he was kept deeply “sedated.” The spokesperson added, “now that Cooper is conscious again, he has been asking to see Luke, and his dog, George.” His brother Luke was treated for injuries and returned home. However, their mom who was admitted to the hospital, demanded that she get released. All she wanted was to be at the side of her son.

There’s a lot of outrage about the shooting in Highland Park, but that won’t help Cooper Roberts ever get his old life back. Hopefully, though, it will prevent more youngsters from being hurt in the future. Think back to when you were eight years old. Imagine being all excited on the 4th of July and then waking up in a hospital bed, unable to walk, bewildered, and missing your sibling and pooch? The whole situation seems terribly sad. Hopefully, doggie George will give his young friend plenty of loving attention in days to come.

Brewers Jersey Number 22 Dedicated to The Injured Boy

Adam McCalvy shared on Twitter, that Cooper Roberts was honored with a Milwaukee Brewers baseball jersey. He showed that it had #22 on it. In his text, he said, “This jersey in the dugout is for Cooper Roberts, the 8-year-old boy who was wounded in the Highland Park shooting on July 4 and has been identified in reports as a ‘huge Brewers fan.” Apparently, the club has been in contact with the family.
