It’s Me Or The Dog is a show that folks can watch on YouTube and it focuses on those people who end up with dogs that present troubling behavior. A recent episode featured Molly, Staffordshire Bull Terrier with boundless energy. Will training the pooch mean that her owner might change their mind about rehoming her? Read on and see the video to find out.
All dogs could use some training and obedience classes. Not just for the safety of little children, but for their own protection. Mind you, even the classiest and best-behaved dog could use a refresher on occasion. Much like children, they also have their own personalities and sometimes just need to do their own thing: like category winner Waffle who stopped for a pee on the carpet at the upper-class Crufts dog show.
Folks don’t always need to call in people like Victoria from It’s Me Or The Dog. But sometimes, people really need help. Obvious signs that your pooch could use some training include things like pulling on the leash when trying to walk them. Other signs are aggression, and of course, jumping up. Jumping up can be dangerous as well as annoying because it could hurt elderly people or children. But Molly the Staffordshire Bull Terrier isn’t just a jumper. Molly has so much energy that she seems crazy!
It’s very important that owners research a breed of dog before they commit to getting one. Staffies can be boisterous and they are very, very strong. Needing space to run around and blow off energy is important for them. Playful and full of character, if they don’t calm things down a bit, it could lead to the pooch being rehomed. And that’s a terribly hard decision to make, especially if the owners have grown fond of the dog.
In the October 29 episode of It’s Me Or The Dog energized Molly acted like a crazy dog. Not content with just jumping up, she pretty much did high jumping and somersaults all over the apartment. Jumping on the furniture, tables, and people, saw things getting broken. So, Molly’s owners tried one last-ditch effort to try and calm her down with obedience training. And it broke their hearts that it might not work. Was it successful?
It’s Me Or The Dog taught the owners some simple training tricks to help socialize the dog. However, despite trying hard, they couldn’t stop the super-active dog from acting out. Mind you, they did manage to get Molly to sit for a treat. So, they decided to carry on trying while they hunted for a more suitable owner. Finally, they agreed that the pooch needs a better place to live where new owners could devote more time to the dog. Because they love Molly, it was a good decision.
As one commenter pointed out, “Please research the dogs you get before you get them, Staffordshires are high energy, lots of love, and very trainable. I hope she finds her happy place.”
