A sad story was recently posted on the r/rarepuppers sub-Reddit, about a dog that had been abandoned in a park. When a passerby spotted him, she first thought his owners had run off to get a doggie bag, but after watching over him for some time, she realized the dog had been abandoned. When the lady approached him, she found a sad note and took it upon herself to rescue Baloo.

Woman finds dog abandoned in a park

Lillian Engelhard was taking one of her dogs for a walk when they passed a community dog run, with one dog inside, but no owners in sight. Baloo’s foster mom told The Dodo:

I thought maybe they ran out of doggie bags and quickly ran to their car to get more, or maybe his owners really did have an emergency of some sort.

Meanwhile, the dog was clearly stressed, no doubt wondering what he had done to chase away his owners. The more she watched him, the more Engelhard saw signs that he had been out there for a long time in the scorching Arizona heat, saying:

It was in the 90s and he looked very dehydrated and overheated. He was pacing and seemed distraught. I knew I had to do something.

As Engelhard approached him, he was overcome with excitement and as she opened the gate, she saw a note stuck in the handle. Moreover, the note read:

This dog is not trained!!! *I had to leave him. Please save him (Venom).

Lillian said her heart sunk adding:

I walked in and he immediately greeted me with kisses and excitement. At that moment, I knew I had to help him.

Baloo went into training

Meanwhile, as she approached him, Lillian knew he was a lovable pup, but with his high-energy level, it was clear he needed training. However, after training him for some time, the over-active pup is completely transformed.

Engelhard said Baloo suddenly “lived for learning”, and within a few days, he could sit, stay, lie down, and sit pretty (sitting with both paws in the air). Now he is completely potty trained and understands he can’t jump up on the couch or on the bed. She said that all the pup needed was a little bit of patience and someone to invest in him.

In her post on Reddit, Engelhard shared a video of Baloo’s rescue and his training, which can be seen here:

Now, the loveable dog is looking for his forever home through Lost Our Home Pet Rescue. According to Lillian, he would do best with a family who understands his past and will patiently continue working on his manners.

Engelhard said he has come a long way, but he does still have some work to do. She said:

He needs someone committed. In turn, they will get rewarded with one of the best dogs ever.
