Firefighters Rescue Dog From Tree After Chasing A Squirrel

Firefighters are known for rescuing cats stuck up in a tree, but a dog is another matter entirely. In this story, the Caldwell Fire Department in Idaho was called to rescue a dog, stuck in a tree after chasing a squirrel. In fact, he was definitely barking up the wrong tree that day.

Images were shared by Law Enforcement Today Radio Show on Facebook, revealing the Caldwell Fire Department arriving to rescue a dog from up in a tree. In the original post, the Caldwell Fire Department wrote, “Well, definitely not a cat in a tree.” In the images, the dog, named Izzy, is seen to be sitting up in the branches until a firefighter carries him down.

Izzy’s owner, Christina Danner, noted that he got up there chasing a squirrel, although she added that he was “never even close” to catching it.

Meanwhile, the Caldwell Fire Department noted, “Perhaps, he will not be so persistent, next time, in chasing squirrels.” However, they did note that Izzy was now safe and sound on the ground.

Firefighters usually rescue cats from trees

While the local fire department is usually called to rescue cats from trees, their success depends on the fire department and the circumstances. According to The Washington Post, a cat by the name of Hank was stuck in a 60-foot-tall tree in Washington, DC, last year. In fact, Hank made the headlines after he was stuck in the tree for five days.

In the errant cat’s story, the local fire department said they couldn’t help Hank. Eventually, workers with the animal welfare nonprofit, Humane Rescue Alliance were called. They were able to put together a contraption using ropes and a crate to get Hank down.

Dan D’Eramo of the Humane Rescue Alliance noted at the time that cats have an amazing ability to climb trees. However, he added, “but actually, they aren’t that good at climbing down.”

Firefighters and Izzy the Malinois cross

As Izzy, the dog in this story, is a Malinois cross, adventures of this kind can be commonplace. Among the comments on the Facebook post, one person commented, writing, “If it’s a malinois, understandable.” Meanwhile, another wrote, “He looks part Malinois, so he can climb.”

Another Facebook user, possibly referring to our new inclusive world, quipped:

Oh cripes, now our dogs are starting to identify as cats?!

Moreover, another joked, “Meanwhile the squirrel hopped to the next tree and is laughing at him.”
