K9 Gold served with the police department in Ohio and this weekend, he crossed the rainbow bridge, leaving the members of the Waverly police and Pike County heartbroken. Of course, any dog that crosses the rainbow bridge makes for a lot of heartache. But when they die while serving, it seems even worse. There won’t be happy days of lazy retirement ahead for the good dog.
Not every police dog gets remembered in Netflix movies. But for officers in Marion, Waverly, and others who work in Ohio, he will be remembered. Originally, the Belgian Malinois came from France and he passed away aged 11 years old. Like Ruby the shelter dog who became a police K-9, Gold died at a veterinarian’s office. Actually, it must have just about broken the heart of his handler and partner, Sergeant Taylor. When the pooch passed, his family went along, as did Chief Winfield.
K9 Gold was trained at K9 Six back in 2013 and since then, made a name for himself in Marion and amongst all of those at the Waverly department. Actually, he seemed to be a very talented dog and become an expert at tracking, finding narcotics, and taking down criminals. As a multi-tasker, he often got called out to assist other agencies and racked up an impressive record with drug seizures. But this week, he passed away and thoughts turn to the hander who spent so much time with the police dog.
K9 6 shared the news that the beautiful dog passed away. While the reason for his death was not mentioned, it’s sufficient to know that he will be deeply missed. In their caption, when they shared the story by the Waverly Police Department. they said, “Gold, thank you for your service to Waverly, Marion, and all of Ohio. We have it from here buddy.” Additionally, the caption said, “Please keep Sergeant Taylor, his family, the Waverly Police Department, the city of Waverly and all of Pike County in your thoughts and prayers. “
Those who knew K9 Gold and complete strangers sent in their tributes. One of them, Sue Addair wrote, “So very deeply sorry for the loss of this hero k9 and prayers for the family. I live in Columbus, and followed several hero[es.] Including Gold, and Six. It is truly our loss.”
Meanwhile, Janet Rothwell penned, “Rest easy boy and run free you have earned your wings. We salute you and thank you for your years of service dedication loyalty and protection. Prayers for the blue line. 🐾🐾💔💔💔.”
K9 Gold received a special message from a follower named Robin Cook. Beautifully written, he said, “God and Gold walked together over the rainbow bridge. May angels be with the family true and blue. You were a hero. Rest In Peace. 💙🙏😔🌈.”
