Could Puppies Cure Your Anxiety?

Could Puppies Cure Your Anxiety?Anxiety can be a difficult and trying thing for anyone to experience. For people with anxiety disorders, there’s often no way to deal with your emotions without seeking out professional help, but there are some methods that you can use to manage the symptoms of anxiety. For instance, changing your diet and behaviour can do wonderful things to limit stress and discomfort.

Everyone has their own coping mechanisms, but sometimes, it seems that having a pet could be a surefire way to curb anxiety. Though pets might not understand what anxiety is, they can still offer support and comfort that is essential to a person who suffers from emotional issues.

Here are three ways that a puppy could cure your anxiety.

1. Your Pup is Always Happy to Cuddle

A dog is always happy to have attention and affection, and contact with another living being can do wonders for anxiety. Cuddling with your pet can help you to feel less alone and more protected, so that you’re not convinced you have to handle everything by yourself. Holding and stroking a pet is calming for most people – regardless of whether you have anxiety or not.

Since people with anxiety often struggle most during periods when they feel isolated, having a pet means that someone’s always around to keep you company and cheer you up.

2. You Have Someone to Listen to You

It may seem strange on the surface, but simply having a pet who can listen to your needs and you can vent your frustrations to can be a wonderful way to calm yourself down when you’re feeling anxious. A pet doesn’t try to offer advice or fix the situation, he or she is simply there to give you undivided attention and love no matter what.
What’s more, playing with your pet can be a wonderful way to clear your mind, because you stop focusing on your worries and start paying attention to the fun and games that are going on with your pooch!

3. Puppies Can Offer a Distraction

Finally, in issues of anxiety, small feelings of worry can quickly escalate into something huge. While small problems might not seem like a big deal at first, anxiety can turn any issue into an apocalyptic problem. When you have a pet around, there’s someone there to distract you from your concerns. You can’t just dwell on your issues when you have to take the dog for a walk or fill up a food bowl.

I got my mini poodle one year after my husband of 43 years died. That dog was the best thing I could have had. He was 15 weeks old when I got him and 16 years and one month when he died. Mays 1, 2016. I miss him so much that it hurts. If I could find one similar to him and could afford it I would get one. I live in a senior home and dogs are allowed but only under 20 lbs. I talk to him all the time. He was blind for 8 years but it never bothered him. I hope someday I can get another one. Pray every night. Anyone with Anxiety needs a dog. God Bless all who need one and pray you will get one. <3
