Getting A New Puppy? Tips On Introducing Your New Furry Friend To Your Home

First off, find a vet that you like and feel comfortable with; chances are your furry friend will, too!

Next, assemble all the things that your little guy will need to make a smooth transition. You’ll want to have a comfy dog bed, food and water dishes, chew toys, a brush, and maybe a travel crate to go along with a leash and collar.

New puppies can leave their canine mom at around 8 weeks of age. But make sure you do the responsible thing and have him or her neutered or spayed before bringing your furry friend home.

One of the best things you can do to train your puppy is to anticipate his needs. Each and every time he wakes up, drinks, or eats, take him outside for a bathroom break. Then, when he does what comes naturally, praise him profusely. He will soon learn that the great outdoors, not the house, is the place to answer the call of nature.

Once your puppy is properly vaccinated, it’s wise to socialize him so that he’s comfortable around others: both of his own kind and the human variety! You can start by visiting a dog park, which will allow him to meet other dogs while being closely supervised by mom and dad.

All domesticated animals have basic grooming requirements, and you have the choice of doing these minor tasks yourself or using a professional groomer. Brushing your furry pal is easy enough, but he’ll also need to have his nails trimmed, and teeth brushed, on a regular basis.
