Dog Receives Bravery Award for Saving Building
In the United Kingdom, a British dog has saved the day by disarming a man that was threatening to blow up a block of flats. The pup, Ozzy, was described by his handler as an exemplary and loyal police dog, and he received the PDSA gold medal during a ceremony in Edinburgh to help bring attention to his incredible deeds. At the same time, police dog Sweep, and Civilian dog Sabby received the PDSA order of merit which has been dubbed the animal’s OBE.
The Bravery of a Good Dog
Nine-year-old Ozzy was called into the incident in Falkirk, with handler BC Brian Tennant. Though today Ozzy is enjoying retirement, back in 2015, a man had severed a gas pipe in a building after assaulting two people at knifepoint, and he was threatening to blow up an entire building by attempting to ignite the gas with a lighter. Ozzy tackled the man to the ground where he was arrested and disarmed by PC Tennant.
The officer commented that he had relied on Ozzy fiercely throughout his career, and that the dog had assisted with apprehending various criminals, saving lives and preventing injuries to countless police officers and members of the public. Receiving the PDSA gold medal seemed to be a great end to the distinguished career of a fantastic dog.

The Other Awards at the Ceremony
Of course, Ozzy wasn’t the only dog to win an award at the ceremony. A cocker spaniel named Sweep also received an award for outstanding devotion to duty while working as a detection dog for the Lothian and Borders Police and Police Scotland. Sabby was also retiring after a ten-year career working alongside the learning disability team with the Lanarkshire NHS.
It just goes to show that some of the biggest heroes around the world might not look exactly like we’d picture them. These four-legged super dogs have made their country, and their owners proud.
