Most Athletic Dog Breeds

Some dog breeds are known for being couch potatoes, just lounging around the house most of the day. But then we have athletic dog breeds, constantly wanting to run and play. Whether it is jogging or playing frisbee, these dog breeds are considered to be the most athletic.

Border Collies

Border Collies are natural athletes since they are in the herding class of dog breeds. These dogs like to go and they like to go fast, so they need to engage in activities that are aggressive and strenuous. Border Collies are great runners and also extremely intelligent.

Boxers

Boxers are a dog breed that needs lots of play time, which includes challenges that are both mentally and physically demanding. Boxers are strong dogs with high amounts of energy, making them the perfect dog athlete.



Dalmatians

Dalmatians are known for working in fire stations because of the fact they are a dog breed that is hard-working, energetic and quick learners. They are also very fast dogs, with the ability to keep up with running horses. So, if you are looking for a dog that is very active and needs lots of room to run, a Dalmatian is the ideal dog.

Greyhounds

Greyhounds are athletic; they are the fastest breed of dogs, running at speeds up to 45 miles per hour. A Greyhound is the equivalent of a fit athlete, like LeBron James from the Cleveland Cavaliers or Vernon Davis from the Washington Redskins.

Jack Russell Terriers

Jack Russell Terriers have a ton of personality and equal amounts of energy. These dogs are smart, fast and they have a natural instinct to hunt pretty. This makes Jack Russell Terriers a big athlete in a small body.

Siberian Huskies

Siberian Husky owners know that their dogs need a daily run. Siberian Huskies were bred to run a long distance in the cold, snow and ice, leading a sled team. These dogs would be the ideal dog breed for running in a marathon because they are fast runners.
