How To Keep Dogs Happy When You Are Away

The sad truth of the matter is that you simply cannot be with your dog all the time. While we’d like to spend every waking moment with our pups, it’s just not as practical as we’d like. We all have jobs and social lives so sometimes our pups need to be home alone. One of the problems that oh-so-many dog owners find is that their pets get anxious when they are away. If you’ve noticed this issue, it may well be time that you did something about it.

Keeping your dogs happy when you’re out and about is by no means easy, but it can be done. Here are just a few tricks and tips that are sure to help you along the way. Good luck!

  1. Tire them out before you leave

Remember this one key thing: When your dog is sleepy, they are always happy. Before you head out for the day, it’s worth taking the time to wear your pup out. You may want to take them on a long walk or just play with them in the garden for a while. Whatever you do, be sure that it takes a whole load of energy on your dog’s part. It might just make all the difference.

  1. Make sure there is some noise

The one thing that all dogs hate is a silent home. Before you go out, make sure that you put something on in the background. Many dog owners leave the radio or TV on, but you can go one step further. Why not check out DOGTV; a channel dedicated entirely to dogs? Popping it on when you leave your dog alone means that they will always have something to watch.

  1. Pop home when you can

This one may not be so practical but you should do it if and when you can. If you have spare time during your working day, for example, you should try popping back. Breaking up the day is a great way to ease the boredom for your dog. The fact that they will get to see you for a short period in the day means that they will cope much better with the separation.

  1. Train them to be happy

This last one is highly important. You can actually train your dog to cope well when you leave them alone. Separation training is extremely common and it’s something that you need to try for yourself. If you look online, you will find that there are a load of easy to follow tutorials. the more you try this for yourself, the easier it will become. While this technique does not work for everyone, it’s well worth a try.
