Dog News: Miami-Dade Animal Services Issue Warning To Owners In Florida

Dog news out of southern Florida reveals that a serious respiratory disease is on the increase. In fact, a  community warning came from the Miami-Dade Animal Services (MDAS) this weekend. Apparently, it mostly affects dogs that stay in kennels together, or if they share the same property.

Dog News Involves A very Contagious Respiratory Disease

The illness that often spreads like wildfire among dogs, is called Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC). As it can spread easily, some restrictions come in. According to IBT, it means that a hiatus is put on certain activities. These include, “microchipping, spay/neutering, vaccinations, owner surrender, and off-site pet adoption events.” However, the best way to help control the illness is for dog owners to be aware of the symptoms and nature of the disease.

The Dog news information warns people to avoid going to dog parks and grooming parlors. Of course, dogs love greeting each other by sniffing noses. However, that is currently discouraged to prevent the disease from spreading. Apparently, if you spot signs your pet is not well, it’s best not to treat it at home by yourself. Proper treatment is available once a veterinarian assesses the severity of the illness. So, it’s best to get it checked out rather than medicate your dog off the shelf. However, sometimes, the animals will get over it by themselves.

Dog News – Symtoms ToWatch For

CIRDC can present as “coughing, sneezing, and discharges from the eyes or nose.” However, keep an eye on your pet as they might worsen. Additionally, you might notice that your pet seems a bit “lethargic.” Additionally, it might also just present a malaise that indicates it’s not feeling well. Much like human coughs and flu, it can spread through coughing and droplets. Notably, the sickness should not be confused with the coronavirus.

Dog news that might help keep your pet safe, indicates that it’s very important to top make sure your animals are fully vaccinated. Vaccinations help to protect dogs from a  variety of potentially fatal illnesses. Notably, back in 1953, one of the worst outbreaks of rabies happened in Lake County. On that occasion, all it took was a single stray dog to cause a massive outbreak.

Humans Are Sometimes Affected By Animal Diseases

Dog news from the 1950s revealed that fortunately, good handling of the rabies outbreak meant no humans lost their lives. In the instance of CIRDC, Vet Osu notes that it’s “very unlikely” that humans will get it from their pets.

Be sure to catch up on everything happening with dog news right now. Come back here often for more news and updates about the Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex outbreak.
