Among the many tragic stories coming from the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there is some happier news of love and joy. In fact, Facebook users are thrilled by the heartwarming story of a Siberian husky named Yukki that was separated from its owners in Bucha. Yukki was separated from his owner, as Marina, a mother of three children fled the town as the shelling started. However, as they were fleeing, Yukki was spooked by the noise of the attack and ran away.

Ukrainian serviceman finds Yukki

Yukki briefly returned to the house, but was scared away by another attack and ended up roaming the street of Bucha. At that time, Ukrainian serviceman, Andriy Smirnov found the dog and took to Facebook to share the story.

In his April 10 post, he wrote, “Bucha, such a little one running around the house. There are no owners, we will look for them.” The post quickly went viral and was shared more than 6,000 times.

Luckily it didn’t take long for Smirnov’s post to reach Marina, who quickly exclaimed, “This is our Yukki!!” Marina told Newsweek that when the shelling began their beloved pet dog Yukki got spooked and ran away. While they looked for him, there was no sign of the beloved dog.
In the meanwhile, according to a neighbor the house was destroyed after it was hit by a rocket. At first, the neighbor took Yukki in, but he ran away again.

Marina said that then, a miracle happened. Yukki was found by a soldier named Andriy Smirnov. Currently, the husky is still with Andriy, who is caring for him until Marina can safely return to collect him.

Andriy Smirnov hailed for his bravery and kindness

As can be clearly seen from his profile, Andriy is still busy rescuing lost dogs after the attack in Bucha. Facebook users praised the soldier for his bravery and kindness. One commented, saying, “You are a super nice person.”

The mayor of Bucha Anatoliy Fedoruk said: “Every day we find more and more bodies of the dead, in different parts of our city – in vegetable gardens, in park areas, in playgrounds.”

However, Andriy Smirnov is clearly a hero for his country, while rescuing much-loved pets along the way.
