Shanghai dogs and cats are reportedly being killed in cruel ways and many people shared posts on social media. A lot of people are complaining because there doesn’t seem to be a lot of mainstream media coverage about it. Additionally, it seems that folks think the animal rights organizations are not doing enough to look into it.
Trigger warning: This article contains a screenshot that some viewers might find disturbing. Please click away now if you can’t deal with it. There are plenty of other less horrifying articles about furry friends on our website. Back on March 29, we reported on an outbreak of Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC) in Florida. In that article, poster by the Miami Dade Animal Services said that domestic pets do not carry the Coronavirus. So, why are authorities in China reportedly killing pets?
Judging by posts about the murder of Shanghai dogs, it seems that Shanghai is taking people with the virus into camps. Of course, that leaves the animals left alone and unable to fend for themselves. That might be one reason. However, for animal lovers, there is never good reason to execute a loyal furry friend. Additionally, the brutality of it seems horrifying. There are no images of dogs and cats being put to death humanely on Twitter.
It is very distressing for a lot of people who see multiple videos of dogs being clubbed to death or suffocated in plastic bags. But, is it still going on? It is terribly difficult to verify anything in China, and because of social media controls in China, it takes some kind of brave to get videos out of the country. Undeniably though, there are a lot of them. Undeniably, a lot of everyday people across the world are outraged by them.
Some conflicting reports emerged on Twitter, and one person,@RodZeidan, claims that the Shanghai dogs’ stories are being misinterpreted. He wrote. “Lockdown enforcement is decentralized. Some overzealous local authorities did indeed kill the pets of people who tested positive. The outcry was immense and swift. They stopped.” However, videos still emerge all the time. In fact, to the point where some people hate it because it ruins their day.
Plenty of people on Twitter seem outraged about the death of the cats and dogs. And, plenty of videos testify that the killings happened in a very brutal way. But, animals lovers seem even angrier because there’s little to nothing being said by mainstream media or animals rights organizations.
Do you think that at least more people should be finding out the bottom line of this story? Is there enough outrage? Should the media start digging a lot deeper to find out if it is still going on? Sound off your thoughts in the comments below.
