Can Dogs Eat Bananas?

As a pet owner, you probably have questions about what food your dog can and cannot eat. Can dogs eat bananas is a common question pet owners ask and the answer is yes.

Are Bananas Good For Dogs?

Some veterinarians recommend bananas as a healthy snack for dogs.  Bananas are high in potassium, vitamin B6, and vitamin C and are a healthy alternative to fatty, salty treats. Bananas are high in fiber as well.  Bananas can help if your dog has stomach or gastrointestinal problems. Bananas also have magnesium which promotes bone growth and helps the body produce protein and absorb vitamins.  Since bananas are high in sugar, they should be given to your dog in moderation.

Can Dogs Eat Banana Peels?

Banana peels are not the best thing to give to your dog. While peels are not toxic, they are hard to chew and hard to digest. Banana peels could even cause an intestinal blockage if your dog consumes them. Feeding your dog too many bananas can lead to an upset stomach even without the peels. It is recommended that you consult your veterinarian if you have any questions about bananas and your dog.

How Should You Feed Banana To Your Dog?

There are several ways you can feed bananas to your dog. Some people simply feed their dog pieces of banana. You can also mash up bananas in your dogs’ food. Bananas can be mixed in dog-safe peanut butter. Dogs also like frozen bananas as well. Some pet owners even make dog treats to include bananas in their favorite pooch’s diet. Bananas can be given to your dog sliced or whole and some people even put them in fillable dog toys.

What Other Fruits Can Dogs Eat?

According to the American Kennel Club, there are other fruits that dogs can eat as well. Apples are a great source of Vitamins A and C, as well as fiber. Apples are low in protein and fat and are the perfect snack for senior dogs. Dogs really enjoy them frozen as an icy treat. Blueberries are also a great snack for dogs.
