As anyone in the northern hemisphere knows, summer 2022 is hot, hot, hot for humans, but also for the family dog. However, now, dog owners in Japan have access to wearable fans to keep their pets cool. A Japanese maternity wear manufacturer, Sweet Mommy is marketing the dog fans and we think it’s a great idea.

The Japanese maternity clothing company, Sweet Mommy, has come up with the perfect idea to keep dogs and cats cool in summer. The outfit comprises a battery-operated, 80-gram fan, built into a breathable mesh coat. Meanwhile, the wearable fan circulates cool air around the pet’s body.

It was the president of the maternity clothing supplier Sweet Mommy that came up with the idea. Rei Uzawa noticed how hot and tired her own pet Chihuahua was when taking it for a walk. She, first of all, designed the wearable fan for her own pet and then realized it would be a popular buy for dog owners.

Japan suffers a heat wave

This year, experts warn dog owners to only take their pets out for a walk in the early morning, or late evening. In fact, the advice came after the UK recently suffered a record heat wave. However, according to public broadcaster NHK, Japan suffers high humidity levels, keeping temperatures of more than 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit) even through the night.

In late June this year, Tokyo suffered its longest heat wave on record. People in the city suffered from a temperature of up to 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit) for nine days. The heat came after Japan’s rainy season ended early.

Uzawa explained that there was almost no rainy season this year, which meant the hot days came early. She then teamed up with a veterinarian to make the wearable fans with the product name, Cool Dog.

Meanwhile, wearable fans are also suitable for cats. Moreover, they seem to have been modeled on similar jackets worn by people in the Japanese construction industry. Meanwhile, it is unlikely demand for the Cool Dog range will drop any time soon. Over the weekend, temperatures in Japan soared once again with the arrival of a high-pressure system throughout the country.

While temperatures are set to drop by Thursday or Friday, the heat is expected to return over the weekend. Humans have been warned by weather officials to avoid going out unless absolutely necessary. They are also advised to drink water at night and remove face masks outdoors, as long as they practice social distancing.

Meanwhile, lucky dogs will be able to go for short walks in the heat, thanks to their Cool Dog wearable fans.
