Ruff Start Rescue in Princeton, Minnesota was involved when three close dog friends, Cooper, Trixi and Bruno, were rescued from the dump where there were living. These close-knit pals were found cuddled up on a dirty mattress, where they comforted each other. However, a year ago, the three canines were rescued from their life of hunger and were eventually sent to different foster homes, where they started living separate lives. It’s always good to have a happy ending, but they certainly didn’t forget each other.

As dog lovers know, the average canine is sociable and loves to make friends. However, in the case of Cooper, Trixi and Bruno, they teamed up as homeless dogs, living in a dumpsite. A dirty old mattress became their home where they curled up each night, at least until their rescue. However, dogs never forget their pals and one year down the line, Cooper, Trixi and Bruno have reunited for a photo op.

In a Facebook post, Ruff Start Rescue shared a series of photos of the three happy pups, writing:

Through collaborative efforts, all three were rescued and adopted through different organizations. We recently posted an update on RSR alum Cooper (lab mix), and everyone asked, ‘what happened to the two other dogs?’

Cooper’s adoptive family tracked down Trixi and Bruno and they all reunited last weekend. Rescue doesn’t get much sweeter.

Meanwhile, the families with their respective rescue dogs had a wonderful time catching up after living a life far from the dump site.

According to Kelli Hanson, marketing and communications manager at Ruff Start Rescue, the dogs were found at a known dumping spot and one of their partner rescue organizations was called for help. She added that Trixi and Bruno were rescued that day.

However, while Trixi and Bruno were now safe, Cooper was scared and didn’t trust humans to save him. For this reason, the pup evaded capture. According to Kelli:

Rescuers knew he was still out there so they continued to check for him often. By the end of February, he was ready for rescue and jumped in the van.

A thorough vet check on each quickly found out why the three dogs were initially skittish. It turns out each needed a leg amputation before they could find a new, loving home. However, thankfully, once the dogs grew healthy enough, this is exactly what happened and all three dogs are grateful for their second chances.

How are the dogs doing now?

Speaking to The Dodo, Cooper’s mom, Brenda Heitschmidt said, “He’s doing amazing!”

Meanwhile, Bruno’s family said he is so easygoing and happy to be in a loving home. However, Trixi seems to be doing well, although she is a little skittish than the two boys. Moreover, the rescue center believed the two male dogs had protected her.

As can be seen from the photos, the three canines were happy to reunite and hopefully, this will become a tradition that will continue.

Cooper’s mom Brenda said she cannot imagine life without him now, adding:

He is a perfect dog.

Many will say how lucky he is to be with us, however, we feel we are truly the lucky ones.
