Six-Year-Old Boy Writes Sweet Letter To Puppy’s Fur-Ever Humans

It is never easy for a foster family to give up a pet they have been caring for, especially if they have children who love the dog or cat. In the case of Maggie, a pit bull mix puppy, one little boy was truly sad to give her up. He made a point by writing a letter to Maggie’s new forever parents explaining how wonderful the pup is.

Many people adopt pets to give them a new family home. However, if a puppy is too young to be adopted, it must first be fostered. Meanwhile, this was the case of a pit bull mix puppy named Maggie that was rescued by the North Shore Animal League America (NSALA). Maggie ended up being fostered by the family of a sweet six-year-old boy.

Maggie’s story began when the animal rescue in Port Washington, New York, when they needed to find a foster home for Maggie. It was important that the puppy was fostered, as she needed training with basic obedience skills and had to learn to be comfortable in a home environment. As noted by Southern Living, NSALA put out a call for a foster family and Roman Duncan’s family was chosen for the job.

Roman quickly fell in love with the pit bull mix pup and was part of her growth during her formative months. However, the family had made it clear to Roman that Maggie would eventually be adopted. That aspect can be sad when the foster pup moves away to a different home.

In the meanwhile, Maggie spent several months with Roman’s Louisiana family and is now happily settled in her fur-ever home. Karla Agostinello, rescue team manager for NSALA, said, “She’s doing great.”

When the time came for Maggie to be adopted, Roman was sad. However, he decided to write letters to the pup’s future family to help sort through his feelings. In the letters, he wrote that “Maggie is so cute.” He also wrote, “Maggie loves to play fech [sic]” and “Maggie is the best bog evr [sic].” Roman then slipped his notes and photos of Maggie in with her paperwork for her new family.

When Agostinello and her team found the notes, they were surprised and very touched. In fact, NSALA ensured that Roman’s notes did reach Maggie’s adopted family.

It sounds like Maggie has settled in well with her new adopted family. After those sweet notes, hopefully they will keep in touch with the sweet six-year-old boy as she progresses.
