Heartwarming News As Runaway Dog Finds Her Way Back To Animal Shelter

In January, a rescued dog named Bailey got away from her adoptive human in a busy parking lot. The search was immediately launched, but there was no sign of the cute pup. That is until she found her way back to the kind people at the Animal Rescue League of El Paso, Texas. Read on to find out more about this intelligent rescue pup and how she got to safety at the animal shelter.

Longest-resident dog Bailey at the animal shelter

It was in September 2021 that Bailey arrived at the Animal Rescue League (ARL) of El Paso, Texas. She was transferred there in the hope that she would get adopted. Meanwhile, the folks at the animal shelter found Bailey to be a loveable and hyperactive pup in good health.

It took 16 months for Bailey to be adopted, which made her the longest-resident dog in the animal shelter, who had made strong bonds with her carers. However, on January 29, she tragically became lost. It seems she was scared and got away from her new human while having her harness adjusted in a PetSmart parking lot. The dog instantly ran away and was missing for three days. During that time, she was spotted several times by locals.

On January 30, ARL made an urgent Facebook post with images of Bailey, writing:

URGENT- This beautiful girl- Bailey- has gotten loose in the area of Mesa and Sunland Park, on the west side. She is very friendly. If you spot her or find her, please call 915-892-9695 immediately. Thanks.

However, the pup’s homing instinct came into play and took her back to the animal rescue people who had been looking for her, 10 miles from where she escaped. Meanwhile, at 1:30 am on January 31, the ARL staff had a surprise caller at their door.

The center’s doorbell camera picked up the lost pet and notices were sent to the staff phones. When the animal shelter checked the camera they spotted the errant dog in the shelter’s parking area. Meanwhile, they called out her name via the camera and Bailey immediately stuck her face in front of the lens.  It seemed she knew exactly where to go to get help from the loving people at the shelter.

One of the ARL staff, Yvonne and her daughter, got in their car and hurried to the shelter where they found the pup waiting patiently. Immediately, Bailey received a whole load of love and was taken into the shelter where she was given a warm blanket.

Meanwhile, the shelter made a heartwarming announcement on its Facebook page, reading:

Bailey is now safe ❤. To all those who searched, spotted, called, hoped – we thank you. As we knew, dogs are incredible❤❤. Bailey made her own way back to ARL, and rang our ring doorbell at 1:15am saying she wanted in. Staff rushed to the shelter and put Bailey in her run. She was very happy, and we were too☺. Thank you.

Moreover, the animal shelter shared a series of cute images of Bailey, including a screenshot of the Ring doorbell image.

Meanwhile, the dog’s adoptive human had been searching endlessly for Bailey and she and her owner were soon happily reunited. However, ARL does hope that Bailey and her human will come and visit them again in the future.
