Seven years ago, Virginia woman lost her two beloved dogs, Starsky and Hutch. However, fast forward to now and Starsky has been found and returned to his home. The moment he was reunited with his human, she said, “You look like an old man now!”

Starsky the lost dog returned to his home

The Spotsylvania Animal Shelter shared post about the reunion on Facebook. It seems that the dog, Starsky, went missing seven years ago with his brother, Hutch. However, Starsky was recently found and taken to the animal shelter, and thanks to his microchip, he was soon reunited with his owner.

According to the Facebook post of March 5, Starsky and his brother, Hutch went missing from Fauquier seven years ago. However, the previous day, Starsky was found in Spotsylvania and brought to the shelter. Thanks to his microchip, they were able to contact his family to tell them the good news. He had been missing with his brother for so long, his owner assumed he had passed away. The shelter reminded dog owners of the importance of microchipping, writing:

So many happy tears, and a little bit of renewed hope that maybe one day Hutch will find his way back home as well. This is why we preach about micro chipping, and never to give up hope. We are so thrilled that his family has been reunited and that we were able to play a small part in that

Microchip technology serves as pet’s permanent identification and make it easy to return lost pets to their families.

Meanwhile, in the post, the animal shelter shared photo of Starsky in his loving human’s arms. Moreover, they also shared a video of the reunion between the pup and his unnamed owner in the comments. In the brief clip, Starsky is being walked out on a leash before he ran to his owner, who was crouched on the ground and waiting for him.

Crying happy tears, she says: “Starsky! Hi baby!” adding, “You don’t even recognize me, do you? Poor baby.”

Moreover, Starsky’s happy owner said he looks like an old man now, adding, “You were still puppy when we lost you.”

Now, Starsky’s family and the animal shelter hope that Hutch will also be found soon.

Reactions to the return of the lost dog

Among the many comments to the Facebook post, some people criticized the woman for losing the two dogs. Obviously, no one knows exactly what happened, but the family had taken the step to have both pups microchipped in case something like this should happen.

One commenter couldn’t understand how a microchipped dog couldn’t be found before on a visit to the vet. However, Spotsylvania Animal Shelter pointed out that some people never take their dogs to the vet, not even for vaccinations.

However, many people were thrilled that the errant pup had been returned to his family. One wrote, “This is the best post ever! I can’t imagine how happy they both are to be reunited after 7 years! Congrats to Starsky AND his Momma and praying that Hutch is brought home too!”

Another wrote, “Better than winning the lottery!! That sweet baby knows exactly who that is!! Yay!!”

While the woman’s name wasn’t released, her daughter, Kira Noel Wedding, commented on the animal shelter’s post, sharing an image of the two dogs and writing:

We are so grateful to have our 13-year-old Starsky home again! We hope one day we find our Hutch too!

Let’s hope Hutch is reunited with his family and his brother Starsky soon!
