A feel-good story about an elderly lady and her elderly dog comes just in time for Christmas. The unnamed elderly lady moved to Texas on November 20. However, as she is a senior, she couldn’t afford the bus fare to take her dog along with her. Now, the pair have been happily reunited thanks to Ruff Start Rescue in Princeton, MN.

Ruff Start Rescue shared the news on their Facebook page, warning readers to get their tissues ready for this story. The dog rescue volunteer wrote that they had the privilege of taking a dog down to be with her mom in Dallas, Texas. When the lady moved to Texas, she couldn’t afford to take her beloved dog, Baby Girl, with her. Moreover, probably due to the dog’s age, her children didn’t want to give Baby Girl a home.

According to the Facebook post, they sent out a plea and a number of people stepped up to look after Baby Girl until they could get her to Texas. They added:

Baby Girl is a senior herself. I can’t imagine what the past month, let alone few days, have been like for her.

The person from Ruff Start said that she and Sara had “loved on her like crazy the last few days.” While obviously traumatized, Baby Girl eventually came out of her shell and was a “spunky little monkey.”

The writer believes the elderly pup understood her every time she told her they were going to see her momma. She added that watching their reunion was a beautiful reminder of why they work in animal rescue.

She added that the last week was full of volunteer work at the animal rescue center, but this story “filled my cup to the point that it overflowed through big crocodile tears.” The animal rescue volunteer said it was hard not to cry. Meanwhile, Baby Girl and her mom were both in tears as they embraced and held each other. The volunteer added that she had never seen a dog cry before, but Baby Girl had tears running down her cheeks.

It seems Baby Girl wanted to thank her rescuers, as she barked gently at them several times as they drove away. The post ended with the words, “Tomorrow we will bum around Houston and head home on Friday morning with 34 dogs. Just in time for Christmas.”

Ruff Start went on to say that they can’t always provide transport for rescued pets, due to the logistics involved. However, they are happy to be a part of this loving reunion. Meanwhile, they wished Baby Girl and her mom a happy life together in Texas.
