Should You Let Your Dog Sleep In Your Bed?

Should You Let Your Dog Sleep In Your Bed?Should dog parents let their fur baby sleep in their bed? It’s a question that’s divided pet owners and canine experts since the moment the loveable mutts invaded our homes. The ongoing debate has legs (pun intended!) with no signs of dying down anytime soon.

Like most things in life, this is a consideration that comes with both pros and cons. Let’s take a look at a few, and you can decide which side of the bed you and your dog fall on.

Having your dog with you through the night can be a comforting and calming experience. This is particularly true for people who experience loneliness or depression, or simply like the security of knowing that their “watch dog” is near.

If you suffer from insomnia, having your warm fur baby next to you may even help you fall asleep faster!

Being together at night can be a reassuring experience for your dog, as well as for you. After all, he depends on you for his very life, and may feel anxious and afraid when he’s separated from his closest friend. This is especially true for dogs whose pet parents are gone most of the day.

So what are the reasons you may not want your dog to join you as you drift off to dream? First off, you should avoid having your dog in your bed until she’s housetrained—for obvious reasons!

Does your dog snore? Or is she a restless sleeper, maybe climbing on and off the bed throughout the night? It makes little sense to share your bed with a companion who doesn’t let you sleep! The benefits of having a warm body next to you fly out the window if you wake up tired and cranky.

If either you or your dog is sick, it’s probably a good idea to sleep separately. And, it should go without saying that if your dog is dirty or has ticks or fleas, your bed is not the place he should be.

So, in the end whether or not you slumber with your fur baby is a personal decision that’s entirely up to you! Sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite, and many happy dreams!
