8 Dogs That Barely Shed

8 Dogs That Barely ShedThere’s no such thing as a no-shed dog (yet!) but there are plenty of dogs who shed so little that you’d think they’re hoarding their fur! All mammals, including canines, shed. It’s a natural process, but some breeds shed less than others. Here are a few dogs to consider if fur balls underfoot just aren’t your thing!

If you’re in the market for a small dog, consider getting an Italian Greyhound, Chinese Crested, or Bedlington Terrier.

Italian Greyhound

The graceful Italian Greyhound is a popular companion animal with a low maintenance coat and a long life. The playful canines live on average up to 18 years, but they are a bit shy, so early socialization is key to a happy disposition.

Chinese Crested

The handsome Chinese Crested doesn’t shed much because they don’t have much hair to begin with! In fact, their hair tends to grow only around the feet, head, and tail. If you choose this breed, sunburn is a concern due to its sparse coat.

Bedlington Terrier

With its soft, curly fur, the adorable Bedlington Terrier resembles a tiny lamb. Their coats range from sandy to brown to blue, some with accompanying tan spots. The breed has a lifespan between 15 to 17 years and makes a great family pet.

Cockapoo

If you’re looking for a medium-sized dog, the cocker spaniel/poodle mix known as a Cockapoo is a loving canine companion and sports a cute, curly, wavy coat. Its gentle temperament means it’s behaved around children, and it absolutely loves to cuddle!

Puli

The Puli’s unique coat hangs in mop-like cords and comes in shades of gray, black, red, and white. This medium-sized dog is a terrific watchdog, is good with children, and needs only a moderate level of exercise.

Labradoodle

If nothing less than a big dog will do for you, how about a Labradoodle (a hybrid breed composed of Labrador retriever and Poodle)? Their coats are soft and curly, and they love to play making them a good choice for families with kids.

Irish Water Spaniel

The Irish Water Spaniel is another large dog with a distinctive, low-shed coat. Its tight curls are similar to a poodle’s fur and this breed is known for being highly trainable.

Saluki

One of the oldest breeds in the world is the large-sized Saluki. It has a soft, silky-smooth coat that comes in black, white, red, and tan. This elegant dog does best with older children and adults as it does not like roughhousing.
