5 Benefits Pumpkin Has for Pets

We’re always looking for great ways to add something special to our pet’s diet. In the autumn, humans go crazy for all-things pumpkin, from spiced lattes, to pies, and other delicious treats. However, one of the great things about being a dog, is that pumpkin can be a fantastic addition to the menu all year round. There are pumpkin-flavored treats at pet stores, and if you can stock up on pumpkin, you can deliver a lovely nutritious treat to your pooch. Here are five reasons why pumpkin is great for pets!

1.   Pumpkin is Highly Nutritious

Pumpkins are absolutely brimming with nutrients. They contain plenty of vitamin A, as well as a host of vitamin C, and rich quantities of potassium and other enriching minerals too. Pumpkins are also low-fat and low calorie, so there’s nothing to lose.

2.   It’s a Great Weight-loss Aid

If you’re worried about your dog piling on too many extra pounds, or your cat is looking a little chubby, adding an appropriate serving of pumpkin to their food adds fiber and volume to their diet. This can help to keep them feeling full when you’re trying to cut down their food intake.

3.   It’s Medicinal

Pumpkin is useful as a medicine for bowel problems, because it contains fiber. It can work to either tighten or loosen a dog’s bowels. It knows exactly what it’s doing, and can address whichever issue your pooch might be facing.

4.   Pumpkin is an Antioxidant

Pumpkin is brimming with antioxidants taken straight from the carotenoid family. These carotenoids are highly absorbable and sit within the cell membranes for your dog, fighting off extra oxidative damage. They are considered to be some of the best antioxidants for long-lasting results.

5.   They’re Delicious!

Finally, another great benefit of giving your pets pumpkin is that they often enjoy the taste! That means if you’re using pumpkin for any health purpose, you don’t have to try and sneak it into his or her diet.
