As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues, many people are being parted from their beloved pets. However, recently, one husky was thrilled to be reunited with his owner. The dog had gone missing in Bucha, a town brutally attacked by the Russian army. Meanwhile, kind strangers ensured that the beautiful dog was returned to his human.
In recent weeks, videos and images have been shared of Ukrainians escaping their country with their dogs and cats in tow. However, while many people escape over the Ukraine border with their pets, some accidentally get left behind. This was the case with a beautiful husky dog that was found wandering the streets of Bucha on his own.
Strangers found the stricken dog and rescued him, which led to the husky being reunited with his owner. It is clear from the video footage that both the owner and the dog are thrilled and relieved to be together again.
In the video included here, the husky dog can be seen running toward its owner. As he reaches him, the husky begins to howl with joy. Meanwhile, the owner himself is pretty emotional over the reunion. He is clearly delighted when the husky jumps up to greet him.
The video was originally shared on Twitter by Ukrainian diplomat Olexander Scherba. In his tweet, he explained that the dog had been lost in the town of Bucha, close to Kyiv.
Meanwhile, the heartwarming story comes at a time when the Ukrainian government is investigating reports of alleged atrocities, particularly in Bucha. In fact, when Russian troops withdrew, bodies were found of people shot at close range by the soldiers. As noted by the Daily Express, citizens had been bound hand and foot and had no chance of escape. Other bodies were found in a mass grave at a Bucha church.
The Kremlin denies allegations that Russian forces committed war crimes by executing civilians, including those in Bucha. According to the Kremlin, the images were a “monstrous forgery” aimed at denigrating the Russian army.
Despite Russia’s denials, western officials fear that Russian atrocities against Ukrainian civilians could be widespread in the country. In fact, Ukrainian authorities claim that more than 400 bodies of civilians have been discovered in captured towns around the city of Kyiv.
