The new, animated DC League of Super-Pets is set to hit theaters on Friday, but some lucky people have already seen it. In fact, one family got a surprise when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made a personal appearance at the event.

Johnson appeared in disguise as Superman’s dog, Krypto, who he voices in the animated movie. In a video shared to his Instagram, and in full costume, the actor called up one family in particular, to give them a heartwarming surprise. The Rock went on to give the family’s kids the one thing they have always dreamed about – their own family dog.

Meanwhile, Johnson captioned the Instagram video, writing, “Stuff like this will always be the best part of my job.”

I LOVE surprising audiences of our @sevenbucksprod films, but this #DCSuperPets screening surprise was special 🙏🏾🍿 I dressed up as my character, KRYPTO and surprised two audiences here at @cinemark in LA.

Best part was finding a loving home with the Hernandez family for my lil’ guy, Quail  An incredible night all in the spirit of celebrating PETS  #DCSuperPets IN THEATERS THIS FRIDAY!!

Johnson’s DC projects

Meanwhile, Super-Pets is just one of two major DC projects featuring Johnson. The second is the much-anticipated Black Adam adaptation. In that movie, arriving this fall, he stars as the anti-hero himself.

Speaking to Comic Book, Johnson and his producing partner, Hiram Garcia revealed how this all happened.  While they were filming Red Notice, he got a call from their agent. He asked if they knew that Superman has a dog named Krypto and it went on from there. Garcia said he was excited right away when he realized that there was an opportunity to tell the story of the League of Super-Pets. He loved the idea of being able to tell the story of the pets of the great superheroes in the DC Universe.

Remember, DC’s League of Super-Pets premieres in theaters on Friday, July 29, 2022. Enjoy the movie!
