A dog, thought to have been trapped in a hot car in Manhattan for 24 hours, was rescued by the NYPD. Now, a month later, the cute mutt has recovered from his grueling experience. Now, thanks to the New York Police Department, he is healthy, happy and living the best life with one of his rescuers.
On June 18, the NYPD tweeted a video taken in a Manhattan street. In the clip, officers can be seen rescuing a cute white fluffy dog from a hot car. The responding NYPD officers first confirmed that the car’s engine was off and the windows were fully closed.
In the tweet, the NYPD 19th Precinct wrote that the dog had been shut in the hot car for two hours. However, the ASPCA later confirmed that the dog was locked in the hot car for at least 24 hours.
In the clip included below, the officers broke one of the car’s windows and once they were able to open the door, they gently lifted the animal from the vehicle. He was then taken to the ASPCA for treatment.
At that time, a criminal investigation was underway relating to the dog, rescued from a hot car. Meanwhile, the NYPD later added to their post, noting that the law prohibits leaving “an animal unattended in a car under these dangerous conditions.” They added, “thankfully the pup was rescued & is being cared for.”
Fox News quotes an ASPCA official as saying the NYPD officers had rescued the fluffy white dog. They had brought him to the ASPCA Animal Recovery Center on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Meanwhile, the American Eskimo, now named Snow, was being given medical care and behavioral treatment until he was ready for adoption.
Meanwhile, as Snow slowly recovered, NYPD Officer Aruna Maharaj, one of his rescuers, kept in touch with the ASPCA during his month-long recovery. It turns out the rescued dog has now been adopted. In fact, the ASPCA confirms that the officer and her fiancé made the adoption official last week. Meanwhile, according to the spokesperson, the NYPD officer wasn’t looking to adopt a pet, but it was love at first sight.
In their statement, the ASPCA said:
From the moment Officer Maharaj was involved in this case, she knew Snow was special. When [the officer] rescued Snow from the car, she instantly fell in love.
The spokesperson said that the officer was not looking to adopt a pet — but when she rescued Snow from the car, she instantly fell in love. The spokesperson said that Officer Maharaj immediately placed Snow into her car, with the air conditioner blasting. Apparently, he then “sat on her lap, licked her face and wouldn’t move from her company.”
Meanwhile, according to the ASPCA official, Snow’s official adoption was delayed for several weeks as he required medical care. However, as soon as the dog was cleared the NYPD officer took him home. Now, he enjoys a large backyard and regular walks to a nearby park. The official also said he is adjusting well to his new family and even has a cat sibling.
Moreover, the ASPCA took the opportunity to remind dog owners to never leave pets alone in a parked car. They say that even with the window open a little bit, the car can quickly overheat. Read this article about how to keep your dog cool during the hot summer heat.
