Cute stories and feel-good news about pups often melt the hearts of animal lovers. However much people try and humanize the animals though, they are not all cuddly and affectionate. In fact, they learn about life from the way their owners treat and train them. So, when things go wrong, law enforcement officials look into the background and history of the dogs. Owners come under scrutiny because dogs often live in well-populated neighborhoods.
Killer Dogs don’t often make the headlines in Florida. In fact, you are more likely to read about successful adoptions. Or, in the Miami Dade area, regular posts come that advise people about pet health. But, when the bad news about the postal worker emerged, nobody felt good. In fact, they hope that the owners of the rogue canines serve a long time I’m prison. Then, the fact that a number of dogs will probably be euthanized raised the ire of more people who slammed the owners.
Pamela Jane Rock worked the Putman area and this weekend, she broke down in her van. According to Law and Crime, “the deadly attack took place in the Interlachen Lake Estates area, near the 2000 block of Walker Drive.” Apparently, five dogs broke out of their encolure and mercilessly attacked the elderly woman. Reportedly, she screamed and witnesses tried to help her. One of them even fired a gun to try and scare them off. However, she later died as a result of her injuries.
When the story about the killer dogs broke, First Coast News reported about it. Over on YouTube, horrified folks vented their fury at the owners. Here’s a small sample of their feelings:
This is horrific, the dog owners must be held accountable.
Any animal owner who has pets who kill, should face manslaughter charges, period. Your animal, your responsibility. No one deserves to die over pet negligence and die in such a horrible way.
ruly devastating. My condolences to the family. The owner should be held accountable.
This is a horrifying way to die. I feel so bad for her. Those dogs were a danger to people and there is no way the owners didn’t know that. Why does anyone have five f’n dogs anyway.
There were so many ways this could’ve been prevented. They ought to charge the owners with manslaughter.”
Overall, about 400 people die from attacks by killer dogs every year. However, the Dogs and Bites Organization notes that they take a lot of investigation. So, fatality statistics are slow to update., So far, in 2022, 33 have been officially recorded.
