Since Russia first invaded Ukraine, many heartwarming and moving dog stories, involving Ukrainian soldiers, have hit the headlines. Whether it’s lost dogs returned to their owners, or dogs evacuated to safety, all the videos definitely require a box of tissues nearby. Meanwhile, the latest story from Ukraine will definitely tug at your heartstrings.

A heartwarming video was recently posted to Twitter by Anton Gerashchenko. The Ukrainian describes himself as:

Ukrainian patriot. Advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Founder of the Institute of the Future. Official enemy of Russian propaganda.

However, it is also clear that Anton is also a dog lover. The video, originally shared on TikTok, revealed Ukrainian soldiers, holding a man’s legs while lowering him down a deep pit or well. At a vocal signal, the men pull the man up by his feet, to reveal a little dog in his hands, whimpering from its experience. Unfortunately, the dog cannot be seen clearly but is a smallish black canine, no doubt happy to be out of that hole.

So far, the video has attracted more than 52K views on Twitter, and will likely attract even more. Readers can watch the clip here, with the caption, “Our Defenders rescued a doggie”:

Ukrainian soldiers give people and pets hope

Throughout the war with Russia, soldiers and volunteers in the country are doing their best to give Ukrainian citizens hope. Many families were forced to flee, leaving their beloved dogs behind. However, soldiers and other volunteers in the country have rescued the dogs and often manage to get them back to their owners. However, sometimes ordinary folk work miracles to save their canine friends.

One truly heartwarming story involved a Mariupol woman who runs a Chihuahua kennel and was forced to flee when Russia invaded the city. However, she managed to leave the city and travel to safety with 30 of the dogs in her car. Since that time, the majority of the tiny pups have found loving homes. Another story relates to a mine-sniffing Jack Russell dog, who received an award for his life-saving efforts.

Meanwhile, another story tells the tale of a world champion sled dog racer named Igor and a US woman who. Between them rescued a number of dogs. While the woman was unable to travel to Ukraine, she organized a fundraiser to raise money for fuel for Igor’s trucks. Moreover, sponsors have been donating free dog food for the rescued pups.
