When a homeless dog and goat first arrived at the Wake County Animal Center they were initially placed in separate cages. However, this turned out to be a huge mistake, as the dog and goat are inseparable best friends. Now, Cinnamon the goat and Felix the dog have their own furever home together.
Normally, the Wake County Animal Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, doesn’t accept farm animals. However, they had to make an exception when a goat named Cinnamon arrived on their doorstep with a dog named Felix.
Initially, when they first arrived, the dog and goat were placed in separate cages. However, the shelter staff quickly saw that this was a mistake. The dog and goat are so “inseparable” they had to stay together.
Speaking to The Washington Post, Jennifer Federico, director of animal services at the animal center said she was amazed by how affectionate they were to each other. She said:
That was a first. Most of our dogs aren’t hanging out with goats.
Speaking of what happened when the animals were separated, she said Cinnamon was very upset and was bleating and calling out to her doggie friend. “She was so stressed and frantic that we realized this pair had to be kept together,” Federico added:
Cinnamon follows Felix everywhere and it was clear they were raised together. You don’t even need to put a leash on the goat – she’ll simply go where Felix goes. When she became upset, we knew they had to stay in the same holding pen.
Speaking of the bonded pair, Jennifer said, “It’s a weird duo, but it works for them,” adding, “Who are we to judge? They obviously love each other.”
After 10 days went by and their owner hadn’t collected them, the animal shelter was faced with a problem. Meanwhile, somehow, they had to find a home for the dog and goat and they had to be taken together.
A new post was made on March 25 by the Friends of Wake County Animal Center on Facebook. In the post, they issued a plea, which was quickly shared on the social media platform.
In the post, the shelter wrote that they have a “VERY unique situation” and need help to find a RESCUE that could take this bonded pair and give them a new home. The post continued:
They are best buds and are truly bonded; they even sleep together and have been kept together 24/7 except when they eat.
The Facebook post soon went viral with thousands of people voicing their support for Cinnamon and Felix. Finally, on Thursday this week, good news arrived.
The Wake County Animal Center made a new post on Facebook, writing that, “The story of the heartwarming and once-homeless odd couple, Cinnamon and Felix, now has a happy ending.”
“The inseparable goat and dog will soon be living out their years together in the grasses of a local Johnston County farm,” the post said.
Apparently, a “forever foster” arrangement has been made with a local family who already have a small herd of goats. The foster, Jacqui Bankes, said how blessed they were to be able to foster Felix and Cinnamon, adding:
As their forever foster, we are excited to keep them together and also integrate them with our other goats and dogs, after appropriate testing and quarantine. Thank you to Wake County and Mr. Mo Project for making this possible for us!
We wish Cinnamon and Felix a long happy life together – it is always heartwarming to hear such amazing news for the odd couple.
