TikTok: German Shepherd’s ‘Flabbergasted’ Reaction To Owner Petting Cat

Cats and dogs normally share an uncomfortable relationship, with some living together under an uneasy truce. However, one German shepherd named Sam openly reacted to the family cat heading to their owner for attention. When the owner shared a clip to their TikTok account, it had viewers in stitches, sending the video viral.

Many pet owners find a video clip of a dog’s jealous reaction to the family cat heading to their owner for attention totally relatable. In fact, it has happened in many homes where a cat and a dog live in tentative harmony.

The Tiktok, shared by user @thatshepherdsam shows Sam, the German shepherd looking “absolutely flabbergasted” in her response to the cat. In the clip, we see a marmalade cat, probably vibrating with purrs, heading towards its owner for some love. Meanwhile, Sam’s reaction is totally hilarious.

Pet owners relate to the TikTok clip

From the comments, it is clear that many pet owners totally relate to Sam’s reaction as they have experienced something similar with their dogs. One TikTok member put words in Sam’s mouth, writing, “He’s, like are you serious?! Right in front of me?!” Another quoted Sam’s thoughts, writing, “Wait a damn minute, wait a DAMN minute.”

However, other German shepherd owners were quick to respond, with one writing “My German Shepherd does the same thing. Can’t hold or pet the cats around her.” Another responded, writing, “that’s my Shepherd too.”

Jealousy among animals

According to a 2021 study at the University of Auckland, dogs are believed to be one of few species capable to displaying jealous behavior. The study compared it to be reaction exhibited by a young child to their mother giving affection to a newborn sibling.

Sam the German shepherd is obviously a case in point if the comments are anything to go by. In the TikTok clip, she seems to be happy and relaxing with her owner. But the cat quickly reacts by cutting in and moving closer to her human. Meanwhile, Sam’s reaction includes several angry pats of the paw on the owner’s duvet.

When this doesn’t stop the cat’s advance, Sam lunges forward, pushing the cat out of the way and placing herself directly in front of her human. As for the cat, it ends up looking a little awkward and not comfortable with her canine partner’s need for attention.
