These days, heartwarming news tends to be scarce, but every now and then something truly wonderful happens. A Virginia family had lost their dog a while back and while they tried everything, they couldn’t find him. Disheartened, eventually, the family decided to visit the Fairfax County Animal Shelter to look for a new dog pal. Amazingly, instead of getting a new dog, they found their old dog instead.
A family in Virginia was heartbroken a while back when their dog, Dante went missing. They tried everything to get their pup back, but without success. However, it turns out he had been taken to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter after a woman found him on August 2.
As the family was looking for a new pet, they just didn’t feel a connection with any of the animals in the kennels. Maybe they couldn’t make that connection because it was too soon after Dante went missing. However, while at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter they ended up getting a huge surprise.
According to a Facebook post by the animal shelter, the family had looked around but didn’t make a connection with any of the dogs. However, as they were leaving the shelter, one of the kids noticed photos of other available dogs. Suddenly, there was a connection indeed, because one of the dogs looked just like their lost dog.
After the family spotted the photo, they went to get a closer look at the dog. They soon realized it was their dog, which had gone missing in another county a while back. Meanwhile, the family had said they had looked for him everywhere. However, they didn’t think he could have made it this far away from home.
When the family was taken to Soldier, who turned out to be Dante, the dog was overjoyed to see his family. The animal shelter said there was lots of jumping, whining and tail wags, while Dante ran from person to person. It was as if he wanted to confirm that they were real and were there to take him home again. In their post, the Fairfax County Animal Shelter added:
It’s clear that Dante is a very loved member of the family, and we were so happy that everything worked out for the best. Maybe this was the universe not letting them feel a connection with any other dog, because Dante was still waiting for them.
Meanwhile, the sister of the woman commented on the post by the animal shelter, saying her sister will be thrilled to know the missing dog had found his way home.
In fact, her sister also commented on the post, writing, “I am over the moon! I found this boy and brought him to the shelter. We loved him while he was with us for those few hours. My heart couldn’t be fuller.”
No doubt, the unnamed family was equally excited and happy to take Dante home with them again. However, among the many comments, it was noted that Dante should have had a chip. This would certainly have made the reunion much quicker.
It certainly is scary to think that, if they hadn’t visited the animal shelter that day, Dante might have been adopted by another family.
